Big Things in Store • USS Animus

On 2 September 2023, Captain Ross Manuel and the rest of the Manuel Clan took the Captain’s Skiff Aquila to visit the Australian War Memorial’s Technology Annexe otherwise known as the Treloar Centre for its annual Big Things in Store event. As the Memorial is undergoing an extensive expansion and development, a lot of the museums larger installations have been in storage, some of which have been for three years. joining them was Commander Jasmin Manuel’s father, a veteran of the ADF and quite convincing Sir Patrick Stewart look-alike. The experience was educational, particularly to the two cadets as they learned firsthand experience from their Pa, who was somewhat humbled to see his extensive military career now museum exhibits, but the whole away mission was a chance to reconnect with our history and to impart it onto the next generation. Both cadets were enthralled with the various pieces of technology and were full of questions. In all a great start to the Father’s Day weekend
