The Ready Room: Happy First Contact Day 2020

Happy First Contact Day.

As I sit at my desk in my Day Cabin I started penning my Annual First Contact Day Post. I had planned on repeating what I have said times before in that the officers and crew of the USS Animus wish you an amazing day and that you take time to reflect on the future made possible 43 years from now.

But we are in uncertain times and things may seem bleak but I caught the address of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II not only to the Commonwealth but the World population and in that even timbre that has kept the course since 1940 she closed with the following:

“We have faced challenges before, this one is different. This time we join with all nations across the globe in a common endeavor, using the great advances of science and our instinctive compassion to heal. We will succeed – and that success will belong to every one of us.

We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.”

Hopefully we can make a world better than the one we have, and we can have that future without having to go through a nuclear war.
